Masagana Resettlement Project was a decision and commitment which started with the purchase of land in 2011 during TAO-Pilipinas’ 10th anniversary. Around 69 families living in the middle of fishponds of Tanza, Navotas decided to move to a better and safer place. For six years, people lived with perennial floods, experienced typhoons, storm surges, and constant fear whenever monsoon/rainy season comes. The 3-meters high waves brought by Typhoon Pedring in 2011 destroyed at least five and damaged majority of the houses in the fishpond, endangering hundreds of people’s lives. This was a turning point for the organization to decide collectively to leave their place in the middle of the fishpond.

The 1.4-hectare resettlement site in Angat, Bulacan is an agricultural land in the process of reclassification, adjacent to a private residential subdivision, rice fields, and agro-industries (poultry, piggery, etc.). It is a work in progress with minimum site grading, a perimeter fence, and deepwell. Twenty families currently live in the site. Two access roads link the site to the barangay and the Sta. Maria – Norzagaray Highway. The unpaved roads traversing rolling raw land to the north and south of the site crosses a creek that swells up during rainy seasons. Slope protection at sections intersecting the creek is needed to keep the road passable even during rainy season and prevent further damage.

1 Plate = 1 Gabion is worth Php 3,000 per plate. This will support the building of one (1) gabion (90cm x 90cm x 90cm) for slope protection of the right-of-way. The community needs to build 300 gabions to cover the initial 10 meters on four sides of the culvert north of the site. Labor will be provided by the community and volunteers.

The ticket also includes a 4-course dinner with 1-free drink and a live acoustic band performance by Kaleidoscope Eyes, among others. The event will be held at Blacksoup Artspace Café, #154 Maginhawa Street, UP Village, Diliman, Quezon City.

The event is an important gathering of TAO friends and supporters over the years. We are thankful for the support and we want to share the blessings we have gained through the years by doing more towards making a difference in the lives of the poor.

We welcome you to join us!
