Human Settlements
The Human Settlements and Environment Program is a response to the growing problem of homelessness, lack of security of tenure and the limited access to housing support mechanisms of the majority of the Filipinos. This program primarily covers architecture, engineering and the planning aspects of human settlements with a strong emphasis on the social empowerment.
Under the HSE Program, TAO-Pilipinas promotes and encourages participatory processes in community planning and development including surveying, site planning, site development planning and implementation, house design and construction, and estate management. Estate management includes the formulation of deeds of restrictions, operationalization of an estate management committee, and operationalization of commmunity-based solid waste management.
PROGRAM OBJECTIVES
- Development and promotion of appropriate and alternative housing approaches and building technologies responsive to the needs of the marginlaized sectors.Promotion of awareness on housing rights and security of tenure.
- Development of environment-friendly waste management systems.
- Promotion of sustainable human settlements development by fostering a symbiotic relationship between the built and the natural environment.
- Promotion of conservation and restoration of architectural heritage.
